“I cast my first ballot for Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1940, and in every presidential election since, I’ve voted for the Democrat. I was proud to vote early for Hillary Clinton, and I’m scared of Donald Trump. In the summer of 1935, I went to Germany with my family. I’ve thought a lot about that trip this year. After he made the arrangements at the US consulate in Stuttgart, my father brought his sister Frieda, her children, and several more distant cousins to America. I want my grandchildren and great-grandchildren to live in a country where everyone gets treated equally, where we all care for one another and where we welcome people from all over the world."
