  • Grew up in China, where her parents were Presbyterian missionaries

  • Was a teacher and social worker for many years, retiring in her mid-80s

  • Wrote a memoir, Inheriting China, and her family's papers are in the Library of Congress

  • Speaks Mandarin Chinese

  • Still lives in her Capitol Hill home

  • Two sons, three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren

But being able to vote for a woman for U.S. president means that women all over the world will eventually be more acknowledged and valued."
