  • Born March 1916 in Symsonia, KY in the same house they now share

  • First women in their family to attend college, graduating from Murray State Univ. in 1937

  • Married best friends and moved to Detroit during World War II

  • During World War II, Mae Belle worked on B-57 airplanes and Mary built jeep carburetors

  • Both taught fifth and sixth grade for 42 years (Mae Bell, history; Mary, social studies)

  • Mary has one daughter and one granddaughter, Mae Belle had two sons

 

"No one is smarter than Hillary Clinton," says Mary. "She's educated."
