  • Born May 1920 in Katalla, a village in the territory of Alaska that no longer exists, to Tlingit Indian and Danish parents

  • Knows how to live off the land and make a home out of very little

  • Operated a commercial fishing vessel for more than 50 years

  • Six children (one deceased), and dozens of grandchildren and great grandchildren
